Where to Find Developers
- indeed.com
This will typically be your best bet when you need to find a developer on a shoestring budget. There is a free tier of job posts and paid upgrades are inexpensive.
- Stack Overflow
Although their process is a bit dated, requiring a phone call and lacking up-front pricing or self-service options, Stack Overflow is an essential tool to most Developers and tends to have a diverse assortment of high quality developers to choose from.
- Dice
A job board that caters specifically to developers, Dice has long been a mainstay of the hiring world for programmers and engineers.
WeWorkRemotely caters exclusively to developers (and a handful of other professionals) looking for remote work.
Craigslist job postings are cheap and let you reach people in a local area quite effectively. Be wary that there is little quality control, however, so you may be bombarded by offshore or freelance teams vying for contracts. If you’re looking for a freelancer, the “gigs” section allows you to post short-term contract work for free.
LinkedIn’s job posting feature is a relatively new offering many people are unaware of. Consequently you may not get very many replies. But on the plus side the platform is self-serve pay-per-click and can be one of the most cost-effective options for finding highly-skilled talent, so it should never be ruled-out. As an added bonus: You know each applicant has a LinkedIn profile you can review directly for more insight into their experience and work history.
UpWork isn’t really for finding full-time employees. But if you’re looking for a freelancer it’s tough to beat: Thousands of skilled developers are available, replete with work history, customer ratings, contract negotiation features, and an escrow system that ensures nobody can run off with your funds without doing the work.
- Use indeed.com to post job listings for free.
- Use Stack Overflow
- Upwork is a mature, stable platform with a wide variety of offerings
- Finding a cofounder is notoriously difficult. Skilled developers have no end of paying options, so a pre-seed startup is unlikely to entice one to work for equity when there are paying jobs to be had. Instead, try Perf3CTO and finance the development yourself, if you can.
